Have you found yourself trying to change habits, year after year, only to find your progress is stalled before you turn the calendar page to February? It's sad, but true, that most resolutions (which are typically habit changes) are never seen through in their entirety. 

We are creatures of habit and tend to go back to what we know. We can thank our brains for that. In his book, The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business, Charles Duhigg discusses a three-part "habit loop" that is central to keeping us "stuck". This habit loop is comprised of a cue, a behavior and a reward. When we interrupt that, we're well on our way to change our habit. Our brains repeat old habits on auto-pilot, but when we raise our awareness of the behavior, and what leads up to it, we have an advantage that helps us stay on top of it.

All of this is easier said than done, of course, as are most things that are worthwhile. So, how do we up our chances to give ourselves the best possible chance at change?
